Aquaculture Innovation Workshop 2016

The annual Aquaculture Innovation Workshop (AIW) is dedicated to the discussion and presentation of the latest developments in aquaculture technology. The workshop aims to further the vision of sustainable aquaculture and foster innovation in the field. Over two days, a multitude of speakers present their insights, experimental findings, and general commentary on the industry.

Asia Pacific Aquaculture 2016 will be the next chance for the international aquaculture community to visit Indonesia since 2005. The aquaculture industry in Indonesia is rapidly expanding – nearly 20% increase in the last 5 years in hectares in aquaculture production and over 50% per year increase in tons produced every year for the last 10 years! Attendees will be able to see what is happening in Indonesian aquaculture to create this growth as well as aquaculture developments in the rest of Southeast Asia. Asia Pacific Aquaculture 2016 is the place to learn about the latest in aquaculture, see the newest technology in the trade show with exhibits from around the world and enjoy the many tourist sights in Indonesia. The International Symposium on Tilapia in Aquaculture (ISTA) will be part of the program.

UVI Aquaponics Workshop

UVI Aquaponics Workshop

Location: St. Croix, Virgin Islands

Program - 3-day course that will provide in-depth knowledge of the principles and practical application of the aquaponic system that has been developed at the University of the Virgin Islands. Participants will be introduced to the system design that maintains water quality by hydroponic plant culture (aquaponics), Fish production instruction will be conducted using both the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and red tilapia. Hydroponic plant production will focus on vegetables, culinary herbs and ornamental flowers.

Instruction - Each day will include a half-day of classroom lecture and a half-day of hands-on field work. Participants will learn the technology through presentation of the theory and practical skill development. Each student will be given a USB Flash Drive of reference materials and course content. Water quality labs will cover the methods of analysis and the use of water quality test kits. Field work will include training in fish handling, vegetable production and system operation.

Fee - Registration is required.  The course fee is $800.  Your registration will be confirmed by email upon receipt of payment.  The number of participants is limited and early registration is recommended.  The course fee does not include transportation to St. Croix, lodging, meals or local transportation.
