2022 Conference Theme: Ecosystems for Change
The Aquaponics Association is excited to announce the theme of our 11th Annual Aquaponics Conference: Ecosystems for Change!
We’ll be at The Downtown OKC Sheraton Hotel in Oklahoma City, OK from September 30 - October 2 for three days of aquaponics talks, networking, tours, and fun!
Check out the conference homepage for more information and special Early Bird rates:
Ecosystems for Change has a spicy double-meaning! The theme refers to both a recirculating aquaponic ecosystem of fish, plants, and bacteria; and also the aquaponic community ecosystem of growers and researchers exchanging knowledge and stories from across the globe!
Aquaponic System Ecosystems for Change
The aquaponic ecosystem of recirculating fish, plants, and bacteria is changing the way we grow our food, and how we think about our food. This symbiotic ecosystem drastically reduces the amount of inputs and wasteful outputs of an agricultural system. The recirculating nature of an aquaponic system allows growers to utilize all nutrients and water.
In an aquaponic system, fish, plants, and bacteria perform the functions they’ve developed for eons. As growers, we harness this ecosystem to produce the freshest vegetables, fruits, and delicious fish. It is the ecosystem that provides the efficiencies we need to change how we grow our food.
In an era of resource scarcity and climate change, we need to harness natural ecosystems like aquaponics.
Aquaponic Community Ecosystems for Change
This September in Oklahoma City, we’ll be convening our 11th Annual Conference! Each year, the Conference draws aquaponic growers of all shapes and sizes, from over 25 countries.
Every Conference has four learning tracks to cater to all types of growers: Commercial, Research, Community, and STEM Education. We all learn from each other because we have all come to aquaponics from different walks of life.
It is marvelous to see conversations between small home-growers with backyard systems, large commercial growers with acre-sized greenhouses, and elementary school teachers working on their next lesson plan.
Just like a physical aquaponic system, this diverse community is critical to the expansion of aquaponics. We discuss how we can expand our influence and reach new policy-makers, funders, and future growers.
We all see that aquaponics is vital to our planet, our health, and our economy; and we work together as an ecosystem for change.
The MISSION of The Aquaponics Association is to expand the practice of aquaponics through education, advocacy, and connection. Each year, our conference contributes to our Mission by reaching new audiences for aquaponics, and by helping existing growers improve their craft.
The Conference will feature three days of aquaponics presentations, tours, social events, breakout discussions, and the Aquaponics Vendor Showroom.

We hope to see you this Fall in Oklahoma City!
