Organic crops are in high demand from health-conscious consumers.  Organic certification is quite obtainable for aquaponic, hydroponic and conventional farms. In this 4-week virtual course, you will discover what you need to know to pursue organic certification.  Each session will be, recorded and will cover the following:

Workshop and Webinar Details

This complete food safety program can be customized to your farm or set up “Do-It-Yourself”.  It guides each step so that when the auditor arrives the binder holds the paperwork the auditor must see and includes a guide leading you to the location, either on your farm or in your paperwork, to every audit question. This course includes:

  • HIGHLY INTERACTIVE AND EFFECTIVE TRAINING. You and your workers are trained in how to meet the GLOBALG.A.P. rules in a way that makes the most sense for your operation.  This training is best done right on the farm. Over a period of a day we go over each area of your farm to learn how the rules effect you and your operation.  You will learn how and when each log is used and how to judge the best, simplest and least expensive way for you to meet the rules.  Every attendee will receive access to recorded sessions for each segment of the course.
  • POLICY.  Typically, there are 90 – 100 policies required for each farm.  Critical to food safety certification, each one is your farm policy on subjects such as conservation, water management, workers, plant protection products, crop storage, bathrooms and much, much more.  Unique situations presented by your farm can be managed with policies developed to directly address each issue. On a long-term basis, this policy also multitasks as a concise training and research guide.
  • FORMS, LOGS AND TRACKING SYSTEMS. Chosen for and adapted to your processes, our base forms are adapted to your processes to become an integral part of your food safety system.  Your current logs and forms are joined with GLOBALG.A.P. rules so your workers face as little change as possible.
  • INTERNAL AUDIT.  Every aspect your farm is inspected.  Office, shop, materials storage, chemical storage, bathrooms, orchards, fields, workers, waterfront and an abundance of paperwork.  In the paperwork section we do not look at income, debt, employment records or payroll. The focus is on the paperwork that tracks movement of your crop, worker training programs and proof of certain activities.
  • REPORTS.  There are two Pre-Audit Reports.  First, you receive a complete Pre-Audit Checklist done on the actual form your auditor uses. This provides the basic “what, where, when, why and how” answers for each required change.  A second report, which I call the “Action Guide” offers detail on the bigger jobs to ensure you are ‘good to go’ on audit day. We review these reports together to solve challenges presented by your farm’s unique situations.
  • RISK ASSESSMENTS.  Commonly about 10 are done for each farm.  Each risk assessment is an extensive list of possible problems.   If you imagine a game of “food safety what if” and apply that to workers, water, safety, mess, chemicals, materials, terrorism, the environment and more you’ll have the idea.  Risk assessments are critical to passing your audit. Your auditor will make sure your risk assessments cover the general risks plus everything that is specific, notable or unique to your farm.
    1. MOCK RECALL.  A mock recall proves to the auditor that you know how to perform a recall any part of your crop at any time.
    2. CROP TRACKING DESIGNED TO INCLUDE MASS BALANCE.  This log offers improved management and crop knowledge while meeting the rules.
    3. MANAGEMENT PLANS.  Based on the risk assessments, we develop management plans that become a guide of what to do if the “risk” occurs.
    4. DOCUMENT GATHERING.  There are many ways we “prove” the answers given in your food safety system are correct.  For example, you need to know the post-harvest location of all crops you grow. How did they get to the packing house?  Do you use as little energy as possible? Are chemicals purchased for crop application legitimate? Are required licenses in place? Do you follow chemical label instructions?  Are your workers trained in all required areas?
    5. ON-FARM CHECKLIST that guides you to every required physical aspect on your farm
    6. PAPERWORK CHECKLIST – a gathering and filing system
    7. WORKER TRAINING PROGRAM.  GLOBALG.A.P. has many regulations that affect your worker training.  All of those facets have been placed in our worker training add-on package designed to be included with your farm’s existing training.
    8. SIGN PACKAGE.  Many signs are needed around the farm.  This sign package is a simple set of “master” forms to meet the rules.
    9. URGENT UPDATES TO THE FARM PLAN.  The Farm Plan includes documentation on mandatory mid-year rule changes.
    10. ONGOING SUPPORT.  Throughout the year, send an email when you need answers.
    11. FUTURE YEAR UPDATES at a discounted rate.
    12. ORGANIZATION SYSTEM with professional binder and organization tabs
  • GLOBALG.A.P. MADE SIMPLE FOOD SAFETY “HOW-TO” GUIDE offers answers as you progress.
  • MONTHLY ANSWERS MEETING.  Join us when you have questions and to learn of new updates and new ideas.

SOME VALUABLE ANSWERS

Who needs to be certified?
Farms who want to improve their methods and grow.

Who is The Farm Plan?
The Farm Plan is a small U.S. corporation who helps farms get GLOBALG.A.P. certified.

What crops need certification?
We work with aquaponics, orchards, row crops – every fruit or vegetable crop, in all locations, using all farming styles.

What is a GLOBALG.A.P. certified Farm Assurer?
The Farm Plan / Juli Ogden has been trained in by GLOBALG.A.P. in the rules, passed their tests and was duly licensed.  It really means they are approved as an independent consultant who works only for farms.  The clients receive full confidentiality.

When do I start?
By starting nopw you give yourself time to assess and make some small improvements.  Don’t let this scare you.  Most farms already grow safe food.  The Farm Plan shows you how to prove it as inexpensively as possible.

When will I be certified
Attend all the sessions.  Using The Farm Plann, attendees learn, ask questions and complete about 80% of the annual paperwork .

Step 1:  Take the webinar.

Step 2:  Clean and organize the farm.
Step 3:  Put the paperwork into use for at least three months.
Step 4:  Make your audit appointment
Step 6:  If you follow the steps, you will pass.  Most farms have a few corrections needed after the auditor inspection happens.  That’s ok and normal.  You will be given a list and usually 28 days. Corrections can usually be emailed in.  Your certificate will arrive several weeks after the audit date.

When can I claim my crop is certified?
Your crop can be designated as certified as much as four months into the past and 8 months into the future from your certification date.

Where does The Farm Plan work?

Everywhere.  We travel extensively for custom work and workshops.   Get a group together and we can set up a workshop in your area  If you just want the paperwork and would like to learn on your own that is no problem.  We will ship it to you from our office in Wenatchee, Washington.

Why do I need to be certified?
To maintain and grow your access to all markets. Although, GLOBALG.A.P certification is voluntary, keep in mind that American farms must meet the standards of the US Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). GLOBALG.A.P meets most of the FSMA regulations.

How much more can I do in a 24 hour day?
This is a common and logical reaction to food safety.  Translating the written rules into common sense solutions organized into a regular day on the farm is one The Farm Plan’s top goals.

How did The Farm Plan Get Started?
Juli Ogden was required in 2012 to get her cherry orchard certified.  She read every rule over and over – for what it said and what it did not say. She organized the jobs into the seasons of farming and translated the rules into everyday language.  Today, Juli helps farms of all sizes. She creates custom systems for large farms, gives workshops and has a Do-It-Yourself program.

What if I have more than 3 People in my farm that want to take the virtual workshop?
